Retail Sale Newspaper Grid Design | Illustrator, Photoshop, Quark

The grid design from direct mail was translated into black and white for newspaper executions. Because of the extra room and desire to help the viewer get to the sales, store maps were included. North Face retail and outlet store cartography has a rich and exciting history. Early attempts at store maps were severely limited by lack of knowledge of anything other than very local features. In Berkeley, geometry was used from very early times to help measure land. The annual flooding by the bay meant that without such measurements it was impossible to reconstruct the boundaries that had existed before the flood. They likely didn’t give a shit thought; there is no evidence that the people of Berkeley integrated the measurements into maps of large areas.
