A Black and White Dallas Christmas with an Emphasis on Blight and Abandonment

Tuesday, December 27th, 2011

Back in Dallas for Christmas, I enjoyed the company of family, my newish wife, 9 cats, two raccoons, seldom seen friends, and the dark knight Stachybotrys Chartarum.

I desired to photograph mostly abandoned, ugly, or old things. So that’s what I did:

Shed of Pandemonium.

You know the economy is bad when even a dollar store folds.

Used car lot for sale, fair price.

The remains of Dallas Highschool/Crozier Tech: the first high school in Dallas.

Scottish Rite or wrong?

Electric letters.

Windows.

Robocop’s office.

Brazilian office.

White Boy.

High quality wall.

Drag racing entrance.

The ghosts of a thousand burger eaters haunt the shadows.

Tacos and tortas advertised to anyone wandering by this vacant field.

Fleming does the metal, son makes the seating.

Abandoned bank.

In the navy.

No parking your zombie cars here, you stupid zombies.

Monthly rate.

Back door action.

My nickname.

Venturing towards the Trinity from inside the levees.

The watchers.

The mighty Trinity.

J Dawg models this season’s hobo styles.

Mantle.

Bureau of bric-a-brac.

Carnival couch.

OK.

Sleepy hollow.

Arsonist’s outdoor plotting spot.

X-mas dinner.

There’s a place in Dallas where the naked ladies have gas. There’s a hole in the wall where the men can read the meter.

Shadowy smiles.

Storms and furniture deals.

Bridge to nowhere.

Beck’s store.

Neither the right nor wrong side of the tracks.

Wimpy’s.

Abandoned church.

Midget thrift store.

Ooogie Boogie and Pocahontas go for a stroll.

I turned left.

I’ll miss you, Big D.

Love,
Cool Hot.

Welcome to Nik Daum’s blog.

This journal helps me remember how little I do and how pointless my life is, share my mundane experiences with others, and improve my writing and photography. I recently moved back to San Francisco from Shanghai, so most of the posts will focus on life around the Bay Area. If you’re not a Nigerian finance minister or in possession of Viagra deals, feel free to leave your comments.
